When I was in high school, I didn’t just want a Mustang; I needed it. I looked at the jobs I could get at that age and realized I could make somewhere between 2x to 3x more an hour cutting lawns than I could at any other job. My friends and I bought broken equipment and fixed it up. Our costs were just a couple hundred dollars in equipment and gas. After those costs, we made almost pure profit. We targeted twin houses, as those had the best ROI on our time. We flyered at the beginning of the season and grew the business to $15,000 in revenue per summer working part-time. This was enough to buy the Mustang, but unfortunately, when I got to college, I realized that there was something I needed more than a Mustang: paying for a semester at Pitt.
